Triple 7 FFg vs FFFg????
« on: May 12, 2004, 07:02:32 AM »
I am assuming that the difference between these two propellants is burn rate.  That said, does the choice of which to use come down to personal preference in regards to the velocity/recoil they create, or does bullet weight, bullet style, bore diameter, barrel length, etc. indicate which one to try first in load development.

Thanks,

FFg is generally the .50 caliber recommendation.

I have been using 777 FF in my 50 cal Encore.  I always used Pyrodex P or FFF black before.  I have been wondering if 777 FFF would burn a little better and help get rid of the infamous crud ring.  Any experience anybody?

Doubtful. I have no crud ring issue in any .50 caliber ML, including my Encore. In the Contender G2-- I have a lot of hard crunchy fouling with both FFg and FFFg.

My encore likes FFF better than FF 777, but I get the crud ring in both cases.  CLP used as a protectant.
