Anybody shooting a .204 Ruger yet?
« on: May 07, 2004, 11:05:37 AM »
Are they even available yet?  Anybody shooting any other sub calibers .17's, .19's or other .20's?  I'd just like to hear about some of your experiences with them.  Thanks!

redawg,
I have been shooting the 17 for three years now and am very pleased with it. Havent had a chance to shoot the twenty or 19 yet but have heard some real good reports on both. After useing all the regular bullets in my 17
i went to the calhoon bullets and in my mind they are the only way to go.
You won't have as much fouling of the bore with the calhoon bullets as you do with some of the others. I get real good results on coyotes,, no pass throughs, Plus a body shot= instant death. P-dogs= red sails in the sunset. The first time i get a chance i'm going to buy either the 19 or the 20 or both. I don't have a gun that i don't love, Keeps me broke but happy.  Take care redawg, Keep your powder dry, Joe

Thanks for the response oso45-70 :D !  I don't know how many times I've heard exactly what you said about no pass-thrus and lights out on coyotes.  I'm not exactly sure why I don't have one yet.  You shootin' a 17 Rem, or one of the wildcat 17's?  What rifle is it in?  BTW, I hear you about the guns keeping you broke and happy.  Have a good one  !

redawg.
I have a rem. 700 classic with a leupold 8 1/2 by 25 vx3 scope on it. It is one of my favorites, Just sold a mod 6 rem. to a friend,, which has killed its share of coyotes and p-dogs. My next in line for yote shooting is a mod 700 rem in 22-50 with a 6 1/2 by 20 leupold vx 3 scope. Another one of my fovorite long range shooters is a mod 700 rem 6mm with a leupold 3 1/2 by 10 vx3 scope. And yes i used to be broke all the time but i found the problem and got rid of it. Its called divorce, Did not know it could feel so good, Now its just me and my bird dog, love to hunt,, any kind of hunting. Well Sir hope you have a good day every day.......Joe.........

redawg ...

Just got back from my favorite gun shop. I was planning on shooting at the range but the rain hasn't let up. The good side to that is I spent about 2 hours looking at all the new arrivals. He had a .204 in a Savage with the accutrigger and a Ruger. He said he has sold several rifles already but no feedback as of yet concerning customer satisfaction.

I have never traveled the "beaten path" that so many others always seem to follow. When I wanted a .300 cal, I went with a .300wsm and I really like it. I am going to get one of those .204's as soon as I can because I want a .20 cal rifle to fit in with the other rifles I already have. I have no caliber between a .17HMR and a .243. I might be going on my first prairie dog hunt later this summer and I feel that .204 would work out fine.
