Actually the 7x61 Sharp & Hart. We were talking at work about obsolete cartridges and one of the plant employees said he would bring in to show me the one his father used until he passed away. Yesterday evening as he was leaving he had me follow him to his truck. He pulled out a leather case that held a beautiful bolt action rifle. It was a Schultz and Larsen Model 65DL chambered for the 7x61 Sharp & Hart. From what I could find out reading last night this cartridge was fairly popular until the 7mm Rem. Mag. came along and slowly killed it off. Anyone else have or use the 7x61 Sharp & Hart? Can anyone add any other information about this cartridge or the rifle? Other than a few loads listed I was unable to find out much. Yeah, I tried to get the guy to sell but no deal. Small groups to all. Lawdog

Lawdog: the 7x61 Sharp and Hart was q very popular caliber, especially in Europe. It's ballistics are just a bit shy of the 7mm mag. The Shultz and Larsen rifles are ral beauties. I've seen a couple in used gun racks before and they are classical euorpean rifle quality, smooth, quiet and positive. Quality rifles. I will look through my older reloading manuals and see if I see any load data for that cartridge. HTH. Mikey.

Lawdog: my older Lyman manual shows the 7x61 Sharpe and Hart to be a hair shy of the 7mm Rem magnum in terms of its performance. It is a belted cartridge and is just a hair shorter than the Rem mag but has a sharper shoulder like the 7mm Weatherby Mag.

My loading data shows, and you should also try Steve's pages for all of his incredible loading data, that the 175 gn 7mm bullet in the Sharpe and Hart will get to over 2900'/sec, doing the same as the 7mm mag. The accuracy load for the S&H with the 175 is 55 gn of 4350 for 2659 while the accuracy load for the Rem mag with the 175 is your choice (52 gn of H380 for 2680'/sec or 65 gn of 4831 for 2921'/sec). The factory load for the 175 in the Rem mag is 2875'/sec.

So, for handloaders the S&H gives nothing up to the Rem Mag, but there is no factory load for the S&H. HTH. Mikey.
