New York Trigger Module?
« on: June 20, 2004, 02:03:34 PM »
Chris,
The beauty of the Glock design is the reliability, durability, and ease of maintainance. The so called "New York" trigger can be installed at home in a matter of minutes. The parts are widely available from Lone Wolf, Glockmeister, and a number of other sorces. I find it amazing that they market parts that actually makes them harder to shoot that when it comes from the factory.

New York Trigger Module?

A Glock Armor is a member of the gun club and installed New York triggers in 12 lb. pull into both my Glock 26's. That 12 lb. pull allows pocket carry with one in the chamber with less chance of a discharge. (Naturally the gun is the only thing in the pocket and fingers are kept away from the trigger) What surprised me was both gun's triggers retained their smooth pull and crisp release. The only difference was the effort needed to pull the trigger. Another surprise was my grouping at 7 yards, self defense distance, remained unchanged. So, for a self defense carry gun that extra effort for trigger pull wasn't a detriment and the extra bit of safety from a negligent discharge helped my peace of mind.

Now, bear in mind that my 26's are strictly for self defense so added trigger pull isn't a major factor, especially considering the adrenalin of responding to a life threatening situation will make trigger pull completely unnoticed. However, were I to be using a Glock for target shooting I'd want even less than factory trigger pull.

Before the New York trigger was installed I was using Saf-T-Blok trigger blocks to make pocket carry with one in the chamber safe. They worked very well with the factory trigger pull and could still be used with the New York trigger. With the New York trigger I've stopped using the Saf-T-Blok.

There is also a middle of the road New York trigger available in (I think?) 7 lb. pull.
The longer I live, the older I get.
Neither has anything to do with wisdom.

Bikenut,
Guess I can kinda understand your concern with pocket carry. Well, almost! Next time you want a heavier trigger pull on a Glock try using the 6# striker spring with the factory 5.5# connector. You'll end up with about an 8# pull, but real crisp!!  The bonus in this setup is increased reliability due the heavier primer strike. One of my duty guns is a mdl 21. I have it setup with a 3.5# connector and the 6# striker spring. I ended up with a pull weight of about 5# and very crisp. (for a Glock)
