It has been suggested to me that perhaps some of the troubles I am having shooting cast can are related to bore condition. With that in mind, I am looking at getting some surplus FMJ 147's or 152's to shoot a bit with from my 30-30. I figure that for punching holes in paper it really doesn't matter if the ball is FMJ or not, and the price is certaily right. You ever used any of these surplus balls? I can really so no reason not to use them. Thoughts? Thanks in advance, JP

Prior to purchasing surplus projectiles, check out some of the major internet sellers. I have found that, by buying in bulk, the corelocks are almost as cheap as surplus and are IMO more useful and more accurate. check the usual suspects; Midsouth, Midway, Natchez, etc. I just bought 500 100gr. .257s for $46.00 +-. I haven't loaded any yet, but I expect good groups.

I have bought some of those too JPH45 but have only loaded the 147's in a .308 and not a 30-30..should work fine though...shot pretty good in the .308...I'm thinking of loading some in the 30-30 barrel I just got not long ago..actually I just got some cast boolits from garnerscache. Someone on here mentioned the outfit. I have to say that I am not too impressed with the looks of them...they are machine made and you can see a line on each side if the boolit where thee mold meets.(sprew?) :cry: Corse if they shoot ok...who cares... being hard cast (looks like the brew wasn't quite hot enough when poured..(Injected?!))and cranked out on a machine makes for an ugly boollit...sprew marks and all. I don't know but hope they work ok... I got 190 grain spire points and flat nose and some 210 grainers and 155grain flat points...all have gas checks. That 210 is a looonggg boolit! Anyone else on her use this manufacturer? All were 8 dollars a hundred.....BUT he charges 3 bucks for handling?!?!(come on! :x ) and 13 dollars shipping! Not a great bargain so I hope they will at least shoot worth a darn.

JPH. I've shot a few pulled military of the years. They do for plinkers but I've never had them give fine accuracy. You might talk to Vance about this, I know he came into a batch and think he has shot some in a .30-30.

A lot depends on who pulled them and how. There are several methods of pulling bullets and some are damaging.

Collet pulled is the less damaging technique....and they all should be resized for safety sake from what I hear. I had some 30-06 AP that I had awhile back that I loaded into 308.It had marks on it but had been resized and polished........shot pretty darn good. Wish I had hung on to some now.... they are getting pretty proud of it.
