question about buying encore barrels
« on: May 14, 2004, 10:40:14 AM »
Quick question from the great white north; when you buy an encore barrel in the u.s., do you have to have it shipped to a dealer, or is it an over the counter sale where you can just walk into a store and buy one? Just curious about the difference in countries.

I think the problem is with the receiver and the fact that you can put a pistol length barrel on it and make it a pistol. So the sale of the receiver is restricted and must be registered if you buy them retail, but the rifle length barrels should be no problem to ship direct with no FFL.

thanks for the help  guys. I drive to the u.s.  often (truck driver) , and the selection of barrels and accessories far outweighs what's available in canada. thanks again for the input.

Hey Up,

Refresh me on what the barrel length requirements are to take firearms into Canada.  It's been years, but seems they won't allow handguns to cross the border.  I'm just trying to remember what the minimum length is--for example, is a 15 inch barrel legal to take across the border?

Thanks!

Mike

hmmmmm... good question. the laws have changed so rapidly, it's tough for even us to keep up! I believe the law is 18" if the barrel has not been altered and if it came from the factory as such.I also believe it must conform to a minimum overall length as well. I know that the contender is prohibited because it can be bought as a legal firearm, but can be converted to a pistol cal. and shortened. not a problem to bring pretty much anything rifle wise across the border, just a fee and a little paperwork in advance. any specific questions feel free to ask.
