Barrel options?
« on: May 17, 2004, 12:30:01 PM »
I just picked up a Handirifle in .243, can I use any H&R/NEF barrel on this receiver or am I stuck with only one caliber? Thanks, Worm.

Go to the NEF website and look for the accessary barrel program information at the top of the page. You can also perform a search on this site for the same info. Depending upon the age of the receiver, you may have quite a few barrel options.

Wormbobskey: A SB-2 action [rifle action] will accept any barrel except 10 ga. and 12 ga. ultra slugster, as long as it's recently made. Some early action only accepted low pressure rimmed rounds, things are expained in more detail in FAQ. Keep'em In Ihe Black:

I bought this rifle new from the gun shop and basiclly bought it because I wanted to have an affordable, mutli-caliber rifle without having to spend the big  bucks on a TC. Will the older barrels made by H&R work as well or should I stick with new barrels? I apperciate the help you fellows are giving me. Worm  :-)

:D  Barrels need to be fitted to your frame; however, an older barrel may or may not fit. For the price of a new barrel from NEF I would decide which barrels you want at this time and send the frame and forend back .

NEF website?

What is the web address for NEF/H&R? I want to go in both directions on barrels with the .243 being the center, more or less. I'd like to have a .222/.223 on the low side and a 308 or 30-06 on the high. Naturally I'd like to have a few shotgun barrels as well. I did bid on a 20 gauge barrel on ebay, but (luckily) got outbid in the last few hours of the auction. I don't know if it would have fit or not. I didn't know about this particular page on Graybeards site or I would have checked first before bidding.  Thanks again for the help, Worm.

the website addr is http://www.hr1871.com and then go to the barrel accessory tab.  For shotgun barrels on a rifle frame you will probably also want to get a standard non monte carlo stock (around $30 from NEF).  The monte carlo stocks are to high to properly sight down the shotgun barrels.

scruffy, I tried that web address you gave, but it wouldn't go through. Maybe I will try it again later, thanks, Worm.

Worm

I don't know if you've ever tried out the 308 in a handi-rifle, but if you want to, I'm sure that it can be arranged.  I go to school at Hocking College, so right now we are practically neighbors.  Let me know if you want to get together sometime to shoot some groundhogs, or just to shoot in general.  School is out the second weekend of June though, so if you're interested, let me know.

Cattleskinner, sounds good to me. Went down Hamley run rd yesterday to check out a bean field, but that storm blew in and I had to get back to the house. The 682 bridge ought to be opened soon so niether of us will have to go all the way around to get to 33. Where are you located at? I live on spring street just inside of Chauncey. Give me a holler sometime and we will get togather. 797-1033. Later, Worm.
