Factory loads for .300 WSM
« on: May 16, 2004, 02:03:40 PM »
I plan on going on my first elk hunt this late Fall. Since Indiana doesn't allow the use of centerfire rifles, I don't reload. What would be a good factory bullet for the .300 WSM in the 180gr. range?

A little expensive but these are as good as it gets.  I took two bison with them this year in my 300 WSM.

Federal loads the 300 WSM in 180 grain with the Trophy Bonded Bear Claw and the Speer Grand Slam. Both would make good elk loads. Federals are not molly coated like the Winchester, this is a plus for the Federals in my book.

Batchief909,

Why not go with the bullet that all other bullet manufactures compare themselves to - The Federal P300WSMB(this is the load number you can give to your local dealer to get this load), .300 Win. Short Magnum  180 gr. Nosler Partition.  Nosler Partitions have been doing the job for many, many years and still do the job today.  Let us know how your hunt goes.  Small groups and tight lines to you.  Lawdog
