I have a 7mm RM encore rifle with a custom 24" barrel from bullberry. Does anyone have one of these? If so, what kind of load have you found that shoots good in this barrel? I am not getting very good groups with this gun, not good at all! I have tried some IMR 4320 with some sierra 120gr. Spitzers I just loaded some H4831SC and some IMR 4350 using Fed. 215 primers. Seating these bullets right off the lands. Any Ideas from fellow reloaders will be a big help, thanks. Robert

Are you headspacing off the shoulder or the belt? Should be off the shoulder. Try backing away from the lands a bit, .010 at a time and see if that helps. The slower powders should work better. If it has a hanger bar forend make sure the screws are tight on the bbl. Make sure the bbl isn't fouled too much and take a peek at the crown for nicks, ect. scope mounts tight?

Do you know the twist rate of the barrel? I'd bet a 7mm RM is optimized for 140 - 160 grain bullets. Your custom barrel might even prefer the 160 - 175 range. Although using a lighter bullet is better than using one that is too heavy for the given twist, I'd move up to at least 140 grainers.

I don't know what the twist is but when I talked to fred about it he suggested using the 120gr or 140 gr bullets in it. I myself would rather use a 150 gr. bullet. As far as headspaceing I am not quite sure what you mean by your question. I fulllength size all my cases for it. I use a regular RCBS 7mm die. I have thought about going to just neck sizing but I haven't done that before so I am not quite sure how that procedure is done.

To partially or neck size with a FL die simply unscrew it a turn or so and reset the lock ring. It isn't exactly like a neck only die but will do. What you are trying to do is size the neck but not push the shoulder back so the case fit's the chamber tighter and more centered. If the action is hard to close or won't lock easily simply set the die down a bit more until it closes without a having to really snap it shut hard. I have tried it both ways and mine shoots better with just a little space. It also may just take a heavier bullet, my 708 shoots 140's the best and a freinds 7mmSTW won't shoot anything under 140's as good either.
