T/C factory walnut is pretty underneath.

I stripped the dull factory finish off my buttstock and forend and was surprised at the beautiful grain pattern underneath. I then sealed the wood with 6 or 7 treatments with boiled linseed oil and a light dusting with 0000 steel wool after each coat dried.
A final coat of Johnsons Paste Wax really made a pretty picture.
My wood now is far prettier than I ever thought it could be.

I have a SET OF CARBINE WOOD AND BOTH THE STOCK AND FOREND are really nice much pretter than the rinite ones from T/C even if they are much more practical. But really tough with the hard kickers but the plastic is more indestructable in the woods and you don't worry so much about ruining the finish.
