shell holder question
« on: May 29, 2004, 04:55:35 AM »
Hello Guys

I have a quick questions for all you 6.5x55 shooters and reloaders.  I have ordered a Tikka T3 in 6.5x55 and was hoping somebody out there could tell me which shell holder to use!  RCBS and Hornady have shell holders listed but I have been told that my shell holder for my 7mm-08 will work for the 6.5x55 because American brass is made different than the European stuff.  I use remington brass because its readily available.  i don't want to order a new shell holder if I don't have to!  Anyway if anybody could shed some light on this it would be appreciated.

Thanks

McRae

mcrae555,

You don't need to buy a new shellholder.

I use the .308W/7mm-08/.30-06 size shellholder for American-made 6.5x55 brass.  Both Winchester and Remington use the basic .30-06 size case head dimensions for their brass.

On the other hand, this shellholder will not fit Norma and European military surplus cases.

Thanks John for the reply!  That saves me 8 bucks!  Every dollar counts when you are setting-up a new rifle!
