Cleaning the inside of cases?
« on: May 19, 2004, 04:15:20 AM »
Does anyone know of any good liquid or other way of getting the inside of cases really clean???
Had a older fellow say GL7 brass burnishing compound that you diluted with water and used in a tumbler, but the company that made it went under.
Any help greatly appreciated

Thanks

I use an additive in my vibratory tumbler with corn media and it cleans the inside a bit. Other than the inside neck area I am curious why you would want the inside body clean.

I don't think it will work if you're using normal corncob or walnut media. The media that gets inside the cases seems to remove big stuff, like sand and dust, but doesn't vibrate enough to do any polishing. Discoloration and soot inside the cases doesn't seem to hurt anything, otherwise it would be an issue with more reloaders.

Are the cases corroded in some way?

I am also confused as to what it is you feel needs to be cleaned?  Were these pickups that were found in a dried up mud puddle or something where there is a substantial sediment layer or something like that.

I have been using treated corn cob and it does a great job on the outside but doesn't seem to do anything on the inside.
One type of case I have reloaded 50 times and the deposits left on the inside just keeps growing.
I have ran my tumbler over six hours but it will not get rid of them (normally 2 hours and the outside of the cases are gleaming)
Then a old fellow told me about this burnishing compound and he said it does great on the inside and out, but I've never heard anyone else using it or if some is still avalible?

Thanks

LuvSkye, My advice to you is to throw a way the casings and buy some new ones. I have been reloading for 44+ yrs. now and never had that problem. The only ones that I know of is the ones that were picked up that had been the weather.
If you decide to use a water mix, the problem is getting the casings dry. If any water is left in them they will get corrosion in them. You decide this is only my 02. cents worth. Carl L.

after trimming the cases to length does it hurt anything if there are brass shavings left inside the case?
