Well it wasn't official NRA type, however it was fairly close. I put together a rifle to attempt shooting some smallbore rifle silhouettes and my closest venue is at our local IHMSA match where they also set out the 1/5 scale smallbore rifle targets @ ranges of 25, 50, 75, 100. What a blast I had!
Let me start by saying just how tough I think this discipline really is! I managed to go 19x40 with sight settings that were not perfect. I know that I could have boosted that score probably at least another 4-5 targets because my second bank was almost always a much higer score than my first. Generally it took those first 5 shots to get my groups "centered" on the targets. However, I found it very challenging to keep the crosshairs on the animal!
A couple of other pertinent facts, this was done with a brand new rifle and right out of the box...first time I've ever shot it. The rifle is a Sako Finnfire Hunter model with a Simmons 6.5-20x50 scope. I was shooting Eley Standard ammo.
It looks like I'll be attending a non-sactioned smallbore rifle shoot next month where it's official targets at official ranges. This is fun!!!
