Hi everyone, I'm new here, only been visiting for a while pending the purchase of a .223 Ultra Varmint. Got that one sorted out with what I needed but want info on factory ammo recommendations for the 25-06 barrel I have ordered along with a factory trigger job. I've thoroughly searched for any recommended factory ammo and only found rem 100 or 120gr corelokts as being used by one shooter. Anyone using factory ammo in their 25-06? I'm not interested in shooting 1/2moa groups, just want a good hunter for long range shooting of deer and antelope, the first shot is the only one I'm really interested in. I'm prepared to go the handloading route as I've found good info for DIY, but would rather keep it simple with good shooting factory loads if possible.

Hello Quickdtoo,

Best factory round that I have found for my 25.06 ultra is the Federal Premium w/117 Gr Sierra Game King Bullets.

For reloads I have settled with 100 gr Rem Corloks on 52.1 gr of H4831 SC, no crimp at 3.14 COAL. Great load for my rifle. One note: My Barrell required lots of TLC and shooting to get to where I am now with the accuracy. Don't give up.

I worked up one other great load I will share with you. 115 gr Nosler B.T. On IMR4831 50 grains. Coal 3.15, crimped, I only use CCI Bench Rest Primers. Winchester Primers also do well for me.

Hornady custom 117SST interlock for deer and such Federal premium 100 NBT or Winchester 90gr PEXP for varmits (or watermelons they really pop when hit with a rapid expanding bullet at 3200+fps)

I'm fighting this battle myself with mixed results. My tried and true .25-06 recipes just have not worked. I'm on the verge of loading up 2-300 rounds of something cheap to shoot and seeing if the rifle will wear in a bit. I've seen other Handi barrels that just refused to cooperate until they had some wear on them.

leftoverdj, have you tried this recipe, was told it's a good load for the 25-06 Ultra. Win brass, Win large rifle primers, sierra gameking #1630 117gr bt spitzer and 49grs IMR 4350. I'm not going to handload lest I absolutely have no choice, going to try some factory ammo first. I'm going to use the Varmint Al method of breakin before I even fire a shot.

I read a guy's webpage on handloading,and his best combo was always Rem brass/Winchester primers/Sierra bullets of your choice.Also i might add that this guy was obsessed with rifle accuracy. He was not happy until it shot 1/2" groups at 200 yards. Also he was not using NEF. This guy handloaded for over 20 some years before he stumbled upon the Rem brass/ Winchester primers combo. He stated that by using the Win primers over any of the others it shrank his groups in half. Anyways my favorite 25-06 load is Federal Premium 100 gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips(or blue tips as my son calls them) For such a small bullet it sure does hit a whitetail like a train,and makes a big hole. I was amazed at the accuracy,and am now hooked on the Nosler's.
