Just to let everyone know, we finally go some of the Nikon Buckmaster 4-12x50's coming in.

I know that the 3x-9x is the standard big game hunting magnification range, but I find the 4x-12x to be ideal - especially on longer shots. For whatever reason, I seem to shoot tighter groups at big game when the magnification is higher. As for the 40mm to 50mm debate, I really like 50s over the 40s (all else being equal).

The Nikon Buckmasters are great scopes for the money. Combine that with the 4x-12x-50mm model, well....heck, I think that I just may buy one! :grin:

Do they come with WHEELS attached? Those dang things supposedly weigh 24 ounces, OUCH.

Nahhhhhhhhhh, not that heavy. I would think that it is probably in the 16 or so ounce range.

Yep. According to the Nikon catalog, they way 24.2 oz. That is a pretty heffy scope.

The reason they are heavy.........Lots of big glass. That makes'em heavy.

Still, there are other 50mm scopes that don't way thaaaaat much. Heck, even scopes with 50mm objectives AND 30mm tubes weigh less.

Hi,

I just bought a Nikon Buckmaster 4-12x50. There is no way it weighs 24 ozs. I think the guy that said 16 oz. is about correct (give or take and oz.). It has superior optics, and seems to be a great scope. I don't see a problem with a large objective, but i guess it depends on your style of hunting (I hunt out a stand so once I'm in, it doesn't matter, justs lets me stay in the woods longer, but i can see if you have to spot and stalk your game how it could be a factor.) Then again I don't see how a 30 mm tube can affect you either. PEOPLE a 1'inch tube is 25.3 mm.......what is 5 mm going to do?? Plus......the 30 mm tube is what gives you that extra time out in the woods. A tube can only gather so much light, no matter how much light the objective gathers.....that light has to reach your eye.....smaller tube less light.....30mm tube more light.......simple concept if you think about it. :lol:

:grin: But I guess that is the hunters call. If you do a little research you will learn that's why all the 30mm tubed scopes cost about $100+ more than a 1'inch tube. :-) (just my opinion). Ok well yall can say what you wish about this Nikon Scope...but it will match up against any other scope except Kahles, Swavoski, and Zeiss. :lol: :-) :grin:

Well, I will stop the guessing. I actually weighed the scope and it come out to be 22.6oz. Also, I have to disagree with you goose, a 30mm tube is not going to gather or transmit more light than a 1" tube. The is a big hunter myth. The 30mm tube will only allow for more windage and elevation. Typical higher cost is from the materials that are used in the 30mm tube (a heavier tube, stonger internal parts, etc).
