I have a Honda Recon now but I'm looking for something 4x4 with a little more power.  Arctic Cats have a very attractive price, anyone have anything good/bad to say about them

Blair,

I have a 2003 Arctic cat 400 that I would not trade for the world.  Had a Yamaha Big Bear before the Arctic Cat and had nothing but trouble with it.  The only problem I've had with my Arctic cat was the parking brake lock lever (plastic)  broke and I had to replace it with an aluminum replacement.  All in all, I'd say that Arctic cat is building the best ATV's out there today.  I don't think you will be disappointed.....

Longshot, Where did you get your replacement parking brake lever? My buddies also broke and he is looking for a better replacement.

Blair,
My friend has one, a 500, and it is excellent. Go with the Arctic Cat.

I don't think you will go wrong with an AC atv.  I checked into them at length a couple of years back when I was about to buy a new ATV.  There are some new models this year and I read recently two ATV reviews in two different hunting magazines.  At one time, and probably still today, you could buy an AC 400 4X4 in either independant rear suspension or with a solid rear axle and two shocks.

They usually lead in their class in rack capacity and ground clearance.   The new AC 650 4X4 uses a Kawasaki engine with push button 2wd/4wd and a differential lock for true 4X4, and I believe the smaller displacement quads still use Suzuki engines.  Hard to beat them, even if they are a bit plain or simple in design.  As long as you don't need to latest electronic gizmo, an AC atv will serve you well.

DirtyHarry,

I got my new brake lever from the place I bought my 4 wheeler, Parkside Marine in Brookville, Indiana.  The guy I talked to said that AC was having alot of trouble with the plastic one breaking, so I believe all the new ones have the aluminum replacement.  Haven't had any trouble since.  Oh yeah, I think AC knows they're breaking, because mine run me about $20.  If you can't find one, let me know and I'll try to track one down around here for ya!!
