switchblade legality
« on: April 11, 2004, 06:36:00 AM »
My sister's x trying to get back in her good graces, left on our door step flowers for her, a baseball bat for her kid and a switchblade for me. It's a nice little knife, stainless 4 inchs closed and 7 inches open. I would like to keep it but not enough to jeapordize my gun collection. I looked on the web and found lots of switchblades for sale but nothing about legality. Did they repeal the prohibition against switchblades ? Would the wisest thing to do be to give it to a friend who collects knifes and owns no guns or should I just sink it next time I'm out fishing.

Don't know about other states, except california where they are legal if the blade is less than 2" long, but here in PA they are definitely a no no.., As per my neighbor the cop.

I don't know about PA, but in New York State there considered a "deadly weapon" and its a felony to possess one.
"ROLL TIDE". . .Back To Back. . .Three In The Last Four Years "GO GIANTS"  "YANKEES"

You guys must be living in a vacum! Federal laws against switchblades (now called automatics) ceased to be enforced many years ago. Just type in automatic folders or knives and see how many thousands of high quality and lesseer quality knive are being offfered with no interference. Some states and commmunities arbitrarily enforce local laws. There are currently dozens of companies in the U.S. manufacturing automatics as we speak. A large number of law enforcement people from the highest levels of government to small communities carry them as a part of their duty equipment---along with fireman, paramedics and rescue personel. Automatics are villified just like guns by the anti-gunners the same  brainless logic. Just a word of caution--don't take one in a courthouse. federal building and of course airport.

i recently saw several high quality switchblades for sale here in Kansas at a gun shop.  The owner said that the type where the blade comes straight out of the handle (stilletos) are still illegal, although that could be a kansas state law.
