I have seen a lot of people ask about a lever gun in 45 ACP but what about 45 auto rim ?   It is the basic same case only rimmed and there would be no problems with extraction like there is with the rimless case.

Just wondering if any of you all had that thought.

Howdy and Good Mornin' WD:  I think the only problem you would have using the 45 auto rim cartridge is that the rim is almost double thickness or the normal or usual rim thickness.  The case was designed that way - it's not like a shortened 45 Colt case, it's a different beast all-together.

As I recall, the auto rim case was designed to be used in revolvers previously chambered in 45 colt but shortened to take the 45 acp in the half moon clip.  Same with the 455 Webley in the older Webley MkVI.  This doesn't add up to a normal rim thickness and I think a normal extractor would have problems with it and would have to be designed specifically to handle the extra thick rim of the auto tim cartridge.  Just my thoughts, thankee.  Mikey.

Know what ya mean... There would be extraction problems either way.
I just thought the rimmed version would be easier to make possible if some one really wanted one bad enough.

.45 ACP Levergun

I once had a levergun made up to shoot .45 ACP which was rebored from a .44 Magnum Marlin 1894.  Worked fine until somebody tried some commercial hardball withsoft primers in it and set off all the rounds in the mag tube.

I don't recommend it.

Thats a bad deal Ed.. Hope no one was hurt :(
How much did you have to modify for it to work ?
Out of curiosity... why did you build it in the first place ?

For Ed also, what are your thoughts on this piece IF it were limited to lead bullets only?
