People killed deer and other big game with recurves and longbows that shot 150fps for many years.  All the hype on fast bows being necessary for deer hunting is a snow job.  And to get most any bow to shoot that fast means you have to shoot short bow with a very light arrow at relatively high poundage.  This means more noise and vibration so they add stuff to the bow to compensate.  Any good namebrand compound will do the job well.  A deer can "jump the string" of any arrow.  Speed will only make a trajectory difference of an inch at 35 yds.  And any reasonably weighted arrow will pass thru a deer.  How many inches does it have to bury in the ground afterwards?   :)  I would suggest finding a bow you like, shoot it to see how it feels to you and never worry about speed.

You don't need the speed.I shoot compound at around 300 and longbows at 150+. both kill.
In a compound I would suggest a bow rated at 295 or more. This will shoot hunting arrows at 260 + depending on the weight of the arrow.
The new bows are quieter than the old ones ever were, and they are more acurate too.Don't shy away from a bow because it is fast.If you get a slow bow next year you will want more speed. That's why I recommend a bow that is rated to 295+FPS.My wife shoots a 318gr arrow at 250fps and took a nice doe last year at 40 Yds.Broke it's back and ribs.
Find a smooth draw and an adjustable cam. This way you can set it up without needing modules  or a new cam to get the draw length right.
I have a couple reviews on good bows on my site. They might help.

My Pearson Spoiler Lite is rated to shoot at 305fps...It really shoots about 250 fps with the 32" carbon arrows that I shoot.  I could speed things up by using a lighter arrow or 75 grain broadheads but things work well the way I have them and that is all that matters.  Find a set up that you shoot well and stick with it.  Consistency breeds confidence.
