Arrived on Friday with a new .223 24" Bull attached and looking good. The 25-06 barrel was riding alone next to it so I attached it and checked both for opening and locking up. No probs now. BUT would ya believe that my lam buttstock is all nicked up around the pistol grip area! I couldn't believe it. Bad Luck has been the norm with this gun. SO ....I called CS and they are sending another call tag and I will ship "ole nick" to 'em and they will replace it FREE. I'm gonna gather up some ammo and shoot several rounds through each of these barrels first though. Bought the gun on 3-11 and haven't got to have a good day's shoot yet so I'm going to before the shipping off and waiting takes place again. Shouldn't take quite so long this time tho. I said it once and I'll say it again....good thing I didn't start this process in September huh?

lik2hunt, they are notorious for dinging up stocks on the return trip which are sent in with receivers, but as far as I know they have always made it good by replacing the ruined stock. You would really think they would have learned to pack things correctly for the return trip!!!. I have an old wood buttstock I use in one of my barrel/receiver configurations that I always use to send in with a receiver when I get a barrel or factory work done. The last time in (for one of the LAST .357 barrels sold!) I sent it in with the wooden buttstock and a non matching synthetic forearm. They sent it back with the forearm to tight on the barrel and not fitting the barrel at all. They must have known that was not the "furniture" that would be used with the gun....<><.... :grin:

You'd think huh? This has really been a frustrating process. It's REALLY gonna make it all worthwhile when I have that 10 point in the freezer ain't it? :wink:

Glad ya finally got it back...but what a deal huh...I think it is the carriers...but if it isn't packed right...asking for trouble. My x-wife used to work for UPS and she told me some horror stories of how stuff is handled...it's a shame. I just got a barrel from a guy and some dies.He padded the barrel and put the dies in a taped plastic box and added peanuts and sent it USPS in one of their cartons.Barrel ok but the plastic box was smashed..looks like it took more than one hit form the looks of it..dies were ok though but were rattling around in the box. No nicks on the barrel though! Good luck I know its frustrating....

I stack, wrap, and pack stuff for a living and do it almost every day. I do a lot of other stuff in my job too but this is one thing that you can't be scimpy on, especially when dealing with any of the parcel mail carriers. I use the white foam wrap and make several turns until it is nice and "spongy". Then wrap with packaging tape and into the box. I usually cut the cardboard so it will make a firm cardboard sock around the foamed up item and then more packaging tape. No need for newspaper, old socks, or foam peanuts now. It ain't pretty but it works. I imagine when the carriers play basketball with anything that I've packed now it holds up to the scrimmage.
