MAGNUM PHANTOM 2.5X HANDGUN SCOPE

Anyone ever heard of one of these?  They are supposedly made by Bushnell.  Are they a decent scope?

Thanks for the input.

tipiguy,
It seems to me that I had a Bushnell Phantom ‘scope in the late 1970’s.  It was a small diameter ‘scope, sort of like a 22 ‘scope.  It mounted with a rail system that was built into the ‘scope.  I had mine on a Ruger Security-Six 357 Magnum.  It was one of the 1st handguns in my area to have a ‘scope mounted on it!  It impressed a few people when I was able to hit a 12 ounce beverage can filled with water at 65 yards from a good bench rest!  I looked for it but I couldn’t find it, yet I still have it.  It did withstand the recoil of the 357 for a good many hundreds of rounds.  If this is the type of  ‘scope you are mentioning, there are certainly much better ‘scopes available today.  Mine did hold up to the 357 magnum until it striped the screw that held the base in place.  This was the screw that originally held the rear open sight in place.  Luckily, I was able to get a good ‘smith to re-tapped the threads and put a slightly larger screw in place and I installed the original open sights and that is the way it has remained to this day.  Good-luck…BCB

I have one of them, it works OK on my 22 long rifle barrel. I don't think I would put it on anything much bigger.  They do not get much of a price anymore the last time I saw one on ebay it was about $25.00.

You can only use it with a rail mount system and it is about 3/4 inch tube so you can not even put it in a set of rings

If you have a chance to get one or more with the mounts I would get it
Just dont expect much

I have one on a 222 rem barrel and had noe problems with it.  They are similar to the TC Lobo scopes.  I have a 1.5x lobe on my bell 10" 44 mag and its holding up well.

With either time or recoil, the Phantoms will come apart.  One of the few scopes to ever have their lens "glued" in place rather than held by threaded lock rings.  They do not have centered reticles and commonly crosswires leave home.  Optics are pretty primitive.  Best kept as a piece of history in handgun scope development.  Today's cheapest scopes are superior for use.
