Ruger #1/#3 scope help (again)
« on: June 05, 2004, 04:37:32 AM »
will the bushnell 3200 provide enough eye relief to be used on a Ruger #3 and a Ruger #1? and how does the 3200 compare to the Leupold VX-II?

thank you

Dave

lubbockdave,

All depends.  What's the caliber?  Small groups and tight lines to you.  Lawdog

The #3 is a .223 and the #1 is a .243. I was looking at the 2X7's....

I have a Leopold VX11 2x7 on my Ruger #1  .270 and it works just fine. The farthest shot I have ever taken a deer with is under 200 yards with the majority   under 60 yards.I keep the scope on 2X unless I need to turn it up

In those calibers any good scope with an eye relief of 3 to 3.5 inches will work just fine.  Now if you were shooting something like a .300 magnum then I would recommend a scope with a bit more eye relief.  You don't want to be sporting the badge of the Royal Order Of Stock Creepers and Big Boomer Shooters Club.  Let us know what you get.  Small groups and tight lines to you.  Lawdog

In those calibers, eye relief shouldn't be much of a problem.  Also depends on which model with the #1.  I have a light sporter in '06 and it had too much relief with a 2x7 Leupold using supplied rings.

Called CS and Ruger exchanged the regular rings for extended rings at no additional charge (except return postage on my part)!   I didn't have to wait either.  They sent the new rings the day I called.

I have a #3 in .223 and two #1's in .243, one of them the improved chambering.

I have a Bausch and Lomb 3200 which is now the Bushnell 3200.

The eye relief is fine for both of them.  The improved version has noticably more recoil but still is no problem for shooting without getting the eyebrown crescent!

I did put a scout scope (Leupold 2X4) on the .223 because the 3X9 was overkill for that caliber.
