newbie glock questions
« on: May 21, 2004, 06:18:35 AM »
While saving money for a sig229, i came across a glock27 in like new in box condition. The price was right, so i'm a first time glock owner. Can the glock be safely dry-fired? How is the recoil on full power .40 loads? Good ammo to start with? how accurate is your 27?

thanks, GNNC

I at least can tell you yes you can dry fire it all you want.
I don't have a .40 though, to answer your other questions.

My GLOCK 40 (model 22) is extremely accurate and very controllable with full power loads. Its my duty pistol so I am for most the time stuck shooting dept. loads but when I am out at the range I have found that my GLOCK likes everything I throw at it. Winchester brand shoots the best for the most part though in mine. You should have no problems finding the "right" ammo, and you'll be very happy with your GLOCK.

You have to "dry fire" a Glock pistol in order to disassemble it. You have to pull the "trigger", then pull back on the "slide" a little, and push down on the "slide release bars" on both sides of the slide to remove the slide/barrel assembly. I wouldn't do it just for something to do, but its not gonna hurt it in moderation.

I just put a pencil with a good eraser into the barrel and fire the pin into the eraser.

Or you can go to the store and buy snap caps which I haven't gotten off my butt to do.

Dry fire all you want. You'll wear out before the gun breaks!

I agree, dry fire away.  Not going to hurt.

As for ammo I carry Speer 180 grain Gold Dots in my Glock 22 and really like the round.  For practice I use the Lawmen 180 grain fmj.
