The deer are getting driven from the bush by an abundance of black flies right now. From what I've seen they seem to be in good shape, considering the winter we had.

Speaking of Blackflies, has anyone tried using Bounce dryer sheets to keep them away?  I've read they work for yellowjackets.....don't know if that is truth or bunk!

John,
All over your body :) ...............seriously, they say you just jamb one into a belt loop, maybe another under your cap to keep the critters away from your face.

P.S.  If you get any feedback either good or bad let us know!

I also heard the same thing about them savageT, guess you could use a safty pin and pin them all over yourself. Dip them in dye and camoflage yourself and keep the bugs at bay.

I use Repel 100, it has 95% deit.... I hate them f--- bitting bugs and I think they hunt me down just to drive me nuts...
Blow a vintage Circe dinner bell and they will come...

You Betchum RedRider!
Repel 100% w/ 95% DEET I carry in my black-powder possibles bag also.  I let a friend use it to go jogging in the woods last summer and complained that it made her lip numb  !  Hope this trick works.......

I know Canada has been plagued by these black flies for years. We now have them in abundance here in Pa too.Years ago we never had any flies to bother us,but now we have plenty :( .It seems they always arrive during our turkey season),and a turkey hunter cant be waving away at those darn flies. Most of the bug sprays now-a-days will keep them at bay but what works for me is a good head and face net. They can bounce off the netting and they dont get in my eyes that way.Even with the bug sprays those basterds will get where my hat touches my forehead and give me a welt or two.
I love spring...I hate blackflies :?
