Ballistic:  The older style Llamas similar to the 1911, is a solid reliable pistol.  I do not know if they are currently made in that configuartion or if Llama makes one in any of the newer, more ergonomic styles.  My only concern with a Llama would be parts, and if it is an older one, the parts do not intrchange (that I know of) with the 1911.

There are a number of lower cost 1911s that make excellent choices, and the Springfield Government Model, the Norinco, the Charles Daly, the Rock Island and ppossibly one other come to mind (as functional as it is this morning - LOL).  Some of these lower cost choices make an excellent base for personal refinements later on.  If you are limited by what you can spend, I would opt for a pistol that lots of folks can advise you on and that enjoys a greater availablity of parts.  Just my 2 cents worth.  Mikey.

I have an SA I really like. However, I'd suggest a Rock Island if you don't have much to spend. I have not heard much in the positive about Llamas.
The main thing I've heard about Llamas is they do not feed ammo reliably.
