I need a rifle to shoot

I have the pistols ( Ruger Vac's ) .45 Colt and the shot gun Baikal 12 Ga. What i need now is the rifle, I really love the looks of the 1866 Yellowboy :grin: But since i am going to shoot black powder im not sure exactly which rifle to get. Any Advice would be welcome. I am more versed in blackpowder shooting with muzzle loaders than with these new fangled ones :)

Ironhand,

What's yer main consideration in a long gun? Looks, utility, ease of use? Those are things to consider, as well as what catagory you want to shoot in. (the new classic cowboy class requires a 73 or earlier long gun).

I hate to say this, but them brass frames 'n BP can be a butt pain to maintain! But DANG they look cool! 8)

The 73 style action has the rep for being the smoothest out of the box action out there! However I highly recommend the Rossi 92s for versatility and raw strength! They can be slicked out by a relatively competant home gun smith, and  will keep running when some of the others won't take it no more! Plus, if yer like me and yer guns have to do double duty as hunting weapons, they can handle the hotter loads with aplomb!

Well, not sure what catagory im going to shoot in. most likely in Black Powder duelist.  I can agree that brass and BP is a pain. i have always liked the looks of the '66 but would think on the '73 if it was really that much better of a rifle.  Main thing im looking for is to play cowboy and have fun :grin:

:-D  There is no better long gun for cas than the '66!!!!!  YEEEE HAAA

Less hassle than a henery, doesen't have that little over sprung trigger block of the '73.  So simple to keep running even I can do it!!!   HEHEHE  Marlins and 92's are sooooo out classed it aint even funny!!!!  :-D   They are NO problem to strip down and clean if ya decide to so son't let'em scare ya off with that either.  So, Ironhand, your in luck, the one you like is the very best there is, if for no other reason than it's the one you like!! :-D  :-D   Ain't it great!!

I loved my 66 and will get another next year...this year....I keep forgetting (haven't written any checks yet so not sure of what year it is). I changed calibers and sold mine in 38, 73 carbine in 38/357 and a Marlin in 44 that I should have kept. I guess I should have kept them all. I'm thinking about a 66 carbine and a Henry since I went over to 45s. I want to get a 45 Colt or two first.

If you are not going to shoot in Classic Cowboy, a 92 Stainless is hard to beat.
