Four frames............
« on: June 07, 2004, 06:45:01 AM »
I now have four frames two blue and two stainless. I'm down to only four barrels. Should I sell frames or buy more barrels? My original idea was to use 2 and have a spare. But I just bought another.

As a rule of thumb...

Never sell anything T/C related.  Just buy more! :-D

Congratulations on the new frame!!

John,  they aren't making those older style Contender frames of yours anymore, so I would think you would be wise to stash them.

Egg-zackly! You saw right through me Tom. I've noticed the prices starting to rise already. The G2's just don't thrill me.

Keep two as pistols, turn one into a carbine, and keep the fourth for the spare.  I was in the same boat a while back.  I bought ANOTHER  frame so now I have five.  Three are carbines and two are pistols.

Have 20 of the "real" Contender frames (easy open) between blue and ss - will still be adding more.   No G2's now, or ever.    I'd hang on to the frames if I were you...

You know I'm not a dealer Chris... but did have and use 20+ frames (C & E) and 90 odd barrels before the meeting with the TC bunch at the 2000 SHOT Show that confirmed suspisions - soon after all but 2 C frames and all factory barrels, scopes, wood, etc went to live elsewhere - was all but getting out of the TC's I'd done since 1969 .   But I really like wildcatting with the Contenders, so am now rebuilding the "real" C frames back up while I can still get descent ones (no E's), and my barrels are almost all customs now from 2 shops mostly, and most are wildcats.   Don't support the factory anymore (don't ask - won't go there).

This is the first reference I've seend to C or E frames; could you break down what those letters relate to? Is there a mark on the frame that would indicate? I have only 1 frame, with a 40K serial number, which I understood to be a second generation (vs. G2) slotted hammer with a safety button.

There are some good references on the Internet on Contender Barrel history, but not alot on frames, so this information would be worthwhile.

Simply refers to Contender or Encore frames.   There are lots of variations and smith hybrids within the Contender frames since its induction in 1967.   Yours is an early frame - best were the easy open (especially pre-fire/early post fire), that started with about serial number 195,000.
