With such a small bullet rifling through a barrel at 4000fps, how many shots should someone expect to get out a barrel before it's "shot out"?
I've heard that that is one of the problems with .17hmr.

mag 41 you sure your not thinking of the 17 Rem. the 17hmr only goes about 2500 fps Rich :grin:

No, He is thinking of the .204 Rem. Which is a 222 Rem Mag necked
down to a 20 cal. Vance I am thinking that 20 cal barrel w3ould not last
long. I have heard and read where the old Swift barrels did not last very long. Marv.

I didn't mean the 17hmr shot 4000fps, the .204 Ruger was what I was referring to.
Still I wonder about the durability of the .17hmr as well, because all jackedt stuff at high speeds does contribute to wear.

I doubt seriously that any bullet at 2500fps will wear a barrel out in a normal shooters lifetime. If it were competetion shooting on a very regular basis with hundreds to thousands of rounds a week going throught it, then maybe.

Just shoot to your hearts content and don't worry.

well if we are talking nef gun`s . No more than the barrells cost. u shoot one out buy another Rich
