Woman Shot, Killed After Coming Home
June 22, 2004
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- One man is in custody in connection with his estranged wife's killing late Monday night in the 8800 block of Arlington.
Police said that they were called to the address about 10:55 p.m. on a disturbance. The call was later upgraded to a shooting. When officers arrived they found Dyanna Powell, 36, on the ground near the garage of the house. She was rushed to a hospital, but later died.
Investigators said that Powell was coming home with her mother and two children when she was confronted by her estranged husband. The man allegedly shot Powell and then fled. He was arrested near 84th Street and Blue Ridge a short time later.
Powell's family said Dyanna and her estanged husband had a problem marriage, and that she had a restraining order against him for years. They said problems between the couple got worse over the past month and that Dyanna moved in with her mother.
No charges have been filed yet in the case.
