Software Upgrades for Garmin's
« on: March 17, 2004, 08:46:41 AM »
I have been doing a good job of checking Garmins software upgrade site for upgrades for the Garmin Legend.  An easy task.  Suddenly I was having a problem loading waypoints from my computer to my gps.  I was getting an error message telling me to call Garmin.   I thought I would try reloading the software first.  The reload did not fix the problem and I was getting the same error message.

I went to the Garmin site and checked for upgrades to MapSource software.  There had been a number of upgrades to the software.  I was way behind the curve.  I saved the updates to my harddrive.  This was somewhat time consuming because I had failed to keep track of the updates.  I also copied the updates to a CD from my harddrive in case of a computer crash down the road.  I also found that Garmin has a Beta(test) v.6 version update for MapSource.  I downloaded the Beta 6.0v and I have not had any problems with it.  It is slightly smaller then the other update and takes less time.  It also fits on a recordable CD.  I am far from being a nerd so I do not understand most of the updates and fixs.  But Garmin's software appears to be rather smooth running.  Better then 99% percent of the software I have messed with.

Garmin has another update that maybe important to some folks in Minnesota.  I think they tried to give that little tit that sticks up into Canada to Canada.  I have meet some nice folks from that part of the world so lets keep them in the USA. :toast:

I just bought Metroguide, and was having trouble getting it do do certain things. I called Garmin and they gave me a link to an upgrade I needed. It works fine now, I just thought it was odd that I had to upgrade it a week after I bought it.

The good thing about it is that they do upgrade their product.  I believe software glitchs have become a part of life.  The good thing is that some vendors provide free upgrades.  Others you cannot find.
