How tight are your groups with these rifles at 100 ?

The reasion for the question is information that came my way on NEF/HR average barrel accuracy at 100 yds.

I'd say it mostly depends on two things.  The caliber of the gun and the caliber of the shooter.

Some calibers, like pistol rounds seem to be the least accurate.  That said, many are showing 1" 50yd groups with 357 and 44mag barrels.

When you get into rifle calibers, most are MOA, some slightly above and a lot well below.  A lot depends on whether or not you handload.

My 45-70 Buffalo Classic could print 3 shot 100yd groups with 400gr Speer bullets, using a tang mounted peep sight.  My sons' 223 regurlarly makes 3/4" groups using Winchesters white box ammo.

Mine does the same with handloads so far, but the barrels is still new.

Do a search for the caliber you're interested in and see.  Some calibers have a definate prefference for a bullet type/weight.

My Savage 30-06 is almost as picky as my Handirifle is.  Be more specific and we can help with even more info.

ANSWERED !   Always in fun ............................ Rip One will sit around the Campfire and blast with the best of them, more accidents now that I'm older though, never hurts anyone but myself. - LOL.

I can tell you that the Manufacture doesn't know they shoot that well.

Rip, Grading the Postal match cards, I've seen groups from .3" up to a couple of inches in Centerfire rifle, and 1-1.5" in pistol calibers.

The rimfire's really seem to shine, especially the .17HMR's.  They consistantly seem to group in the .3's.

Jeff223's,  223 has been known to shoot .50" groups at 100 yds. He has a custom barrel, 99 yards long :wink:

 I gotten 1.50" groups @ 100 with my 30-30 but they aren't the norm. I working on it with a variety of loads and bullets I'm testing.

MAG41VANCE & WISCOTT:  The out of the box Handi's are what I recieved group size information on - and again, it was bad information from what I have read here - and I like that. My Handi 22 Mag shoots very well /
I would like to have a Handi in 7mm-08 20 or 22" Bull, with the Buffalo Stock and Forearm ..... may not be possable.
 
The .17 is interesting, but my .22 Mag is a cranker - nice. I had a 41 Mag S&W 8" barrel Revolver ............... great cartridge - was a shooter. Have a 45 Auto now 1911, big hole. If it goes bang, I'll hug it - LOL.

Rip, most of these are out of the box, with some tinkering.  I wouldn't really call them custom jobs :grin:

I wouldn't think you'd be out of line to expect 1MOA accuracy from certain calibers (.223, .270, .280 etc).
