My son and I compared the relative kaboom factor of three different prairie dog loads the other day. We shot identical milk jugs filled with water, at a distance of 100 yards.
The 221 fireball from a 10" contender with a muzzle velocity of about 2250fps and a 50 grain Speer TNT bullet burst the jug about as well as a 40 grain Nosler BT from a 223 remington with a muzzle velocity of about 3250fps.
A .270 Winchester loaded with 110 grain Hornady VMax with a muzzle velocity of about 3050fps burst the jug open so that it was flattened and the spray knocked over a full jug about 8 feet away. The effect was spectacular compared to the .22s.
