What did ol JW have put on his tombstone as an epitath?

Didn't ignore it, just missed it. Below is what I found.

"Before his death, Duke wanted a simple epitaph carved on his headstone, "Feo, Fuerte y Formal". Translated it means "He was Ugly, Strong, and had Dignity". Sadly, his wishes were never carried out. Dukes grave, in Pacific View Memorial Park, still remains unmarked to this day."

"Addendum
After 20 years John Wayne's burial site now has a headstone. The headstone is a bronze plaque featuring an image of John Wayne astride a horse, near the Alamo.

Its inscription reads:

"Tommorow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. It's perfect when it arrives and it puts itself in our hands. It hopes we've learnt something from yesterday."

If I was interested, I think I could probably meet Merle Haggard, Clint Eastwood, seems like there is someone else that has a place around here.
Clint's place use to belong to Bing Crosby who I met when I was in grammer school. Tennessee Ernie Ford owned a ranch that my Grandfather and his brother lost during the Depression.

Didn't need to see no paper, tha bossman showed me everthang I needed to see when he walked up an set down.
Was still a VERY imposing figure in the early 60's.

PS- i ask him about tha dog story, frum when he was Sheriff in Navasota, he was chucklin as we talked. Old Rangers have a different, very different, set of values and humor. That is why they were either a curse or a blessing as peace officers.

I'm writin it so it's your call. Like a dogs tail, ya can cut it off where ever ya want.
I'm writin frum memory so doan hold me to tha accuracy, seems it was also publised in a book sumwhar, I'll have to look fer it if'n ya want that version.
Seems tha local hotel owner had a dog that he refused to keep up. Tha dog was not a real sociable critter.
On complaints, one frum a local woman cause it had done sum amount of destruction to her pet. Hamer TOLD tha man to keep his dog up. Tha man didn't an Hamer found tha dog tearing up another dog. He knocked him sensless with his gun to make him turn loose. Told tha hotelman to keep him up or th next time he would kill tha dog.
Wasn't long fore tha dog was at it agin. Hotelman got tha dog into tha hotel fore Capt. hank arrived on tha scene. Didn't make no difference to Hamer. He walked into tha hotel an shot tha dog dead in tha lobby.
Caused quiet an up-roar mongst sum of tha more genteel in town.

I think i'll be caught lyin, agin. I met hamer in the early 50's. A friends father was a state representative an we was in Austin with him when we met. Thats my story an I'm stickin to it.
Hamer was a lengendary person in Texas, by God-and stories of him abound in folklore circles around these parts. He was as much a Texas Ranger of the old border rangers as you could find.
A gentleman, as I recall.

Did you know Joaquin Jackson has a book coming out in March? I corresponded with him a couple times. I wonder if he will do a book tour or just let it be??? Univ. of Texas press is publishing. Amazon has it on the wait list.

Gosh, I'm way late but, when I was a rookie back in the early 70s Captain VanZandt used to stop by Fannin County Sheriff's Officer and visit. I was City but, my wife was secratary to the Sheriff and would call me to come by. Not all that famous I guess except around here but, a REAL Ranger to the bone. Not to be messed with in his day. He told a news paper man once how many men he had shot but, said he didn't count mexicans or blacks. That went over real well.
