G2 won't cock
« on: April 28, 2004, 08:12:47 PM »
I recently bought a used barrel in 7mm TCU.  When I installed the barrel on my G2 it wouldn't allow me to cock the hammer.  I took the barrel off and put it on again several times but there was no change.  I have several other barrels that all work fine.  I couldn't see any physical difference.  I sent the barrel back and it works just fine on the owners frames.  What's the problem?

I had the same trouble when I got me G2 so I called Thompson Center and the fella said that I needed a new locking bolt because not all locking bolts would work with the G2 frame.

They sent one along (free) and when it came, I installed it, and bingo, it works fine now.

I can see no difference in the two bolts, by the way.

I had the same problem when I put a used 7-30 on my new G2.  I took the barrel off and cleaned and lightly oiled the locking mechanism, reinstalled the barrel and it worked occasionally.  The more I opened and closed the barrel the easier it got to lock up.  It now operates fine and I can cock, release and recock each time.  Still haven't fired it yet as I am educating myself on my other new hobby......  reloading.

When you say to stone the ends..........do you mean the top?  How would the ends affect lockup?  I have the same problem with a spendy custom built barrel and am just trying to figure these things out.

I just experienced this on a NIB barrel with my G2.  I think I'll call T/C rather than stoning for starters.
