Remington Model 673????
« on: November 25, 2002, 08:07:40 PM »
What the heck is that you ask?  :-D

Well it seems Remington has decided to revive the Model 600/660 idea and the Model 673 is it. They say it is an update of the Model 600 series but to me it just looks like a short barreled Model 700 with a VENT RIB, yeah I said a vent rib on it.

Is supposed to be available in .350 Rem. Mag. and the new .300 SRUM or whatever they call that new short RP magnum case.

Ya heard it here.

Grinder: Yup shore is.

WB: List is a bit over $800 so it should sell in stores for $700 or under.

According to the article in Shooting Times they are supposed to hit the market in mid-2003.  Should be enough time to set the money aside.  I'll take one.

Why the hell would anyone put a rib on a rifle that has open sights? (not to mention a scope.)  And, other than that rib, what's the difference between it and the M700?  And at a list price of $800 and street price of (an expected) $700 - that's sounds kinda crazy to me.

I'm not too excited about this one.

I  think I'll wait for Winchester to do it right and make theirs. The O.A.L. of the cartridge will be the right length, longer, and will be in a nicer rifle. I'm hoping they make one, or a short .338 , better bullet selection.

G.B. I've read both posts on this new rifle on your forum. And for one am excited about the new rifle. I've always been a fan of woods rifles. The original vent rib was put on the 600's to make the skinny barrels look bigger. On the new one it appear to have been included for a sight plane ( my opinion ). The .350 is a cartridge that I've used on deer for about a decade now, and from experience, it works just fine.  I can only hope that Remington puts out some appropriate ammo for the deer timber, for the people that don't reload. It seems that most who post here are looking for a more eye appealing rifle, and I have absolutely NO problem with this. When the 600's first came out most of the gun rags dissed it heavy. Now it seems that a lot of the same writers find it to be near perfect for the purpose it was built for ( witness the steady increase in used price, often offered by Canadian or Alaskan big game guilds).  Go figure. It might not be perfect for Wyoming or Colorado mountains but should be just fine for the woods hunters.
