Better peep sight for Mini 14 Ranch Carbine?
« on: March 09, 2004, 04:58:17 AM »
Does anyone know of an improved peep sight for the ranch carbine?
I looked at the Williams web page and cannot find anything.
Thanks.

FOUND IT :-D
Accuracy Systems has a M1A sight that is a little expensive ($60), but it is a drop-in proposition.
Just remove the worthless Ruger peep and mount it with the stock allen-head screw.
No Dremmel required.

Mini 14 - what type and what sight

We have two Mini 14s acquired back in the mid seventies.  They are, however, different models, the "lock back" outside control mechanism on the back left side of the receiver being different.  I have never fired them much, but what shooting we've done indicates that there has to be an improvement in the sighting arrangement, (both of them now sporting the factory peep sight).  For one thing, they don't stabilize at the clicks. At any rate, I don't know whether they will take the sight you mention above or not, but the site selling them says they are for "ranch rifles".  (just starting back to fooling with my guns, so ignorant on a lot of stuff like this).  How can I tell if the sights will fit these rifles, and, if not, are there alternatives other than scopes.  We like the peeps for general farm use.

Sounds like you have a series 180 and 181.  The 180 is pretty rare and there aren't alot of parts around for it.  The 181 however is the same as the current production design.  Yours is not a ranch.  The mini ranch didn't come out till the 80's I believe.  The ranch has the two "ruger scope lugs" on the top of the reciever.  If yours doesn't have them you've got the standard mini.

For a replacement sight for the standard mini rear sight you might try the one from millet - http://www.millettsights.com/milit.htm down at the bottom of the page.
