A Site Problem
« on: June 18, 2004, 05:54:48 AM »
Hi all! I'm in the process af changing all of my Contender barrels to scope mts. Problem: the back sites on two of my barrels don't want to come off. The others were simple enough. Remove top adjustment screw. The top flips over and remove the 4 mt. screws. These however catch on the back, and won't flip up. I tryed to remove the side adjustment screw, and the v slides over but stops, short of comming out. It feels like any more torque would break something. Are some rear sights unremoveable, or am I doing it wrong? Thanks in advance for any suggestions or comments.

These sound like the older sights.  If the're like mine, drift out the front pin(where it pivots) then remove the adjustment screw and the sight should slide forward and out.  GOOD SHOOTIN', Walt

I suspect that you need to remove the roll pin that holds the elevation adjustment arm to the rear sight base.  It takes a 1/16" punch or similar sized tool.

The later sights are of a different design and allow you to just unscrew the elevation adjustment screw and the arm will swing up and allow access to the screws holding the base to the barrel.

Use a small pin punch and remove the pin where the sight pivots.  Then you can get to the screws.
