L&R replacement locks for CVA or TC?

The CVA .45 Cal flintlock Mountain rifle arrived today. NIB with factory tags/warranty card attached. Browned barrel, butt plate, and trigger guard with German silver patch box ect. I bought the rifle just because they are no longer made and the price was fair. I already own a early virginia custom with Chambers lock and Getz barrel so buying the CVA was just to have another toy. But after looking at the rifle am going to do one of two things. Just turn around and sell it, or if I keep it maybe retrofit the rifle with one of the L&R replacements locks. The rifle is a bit to small for my frame and my fingers are to fat for the triggers. But it is just right for the grand kids (future). Has anyone converted their CVA or TC to one of the L&R LRP locks? How did they work out?

Ok, if no has personelly bought one of the LRP replacement locks, how about third cousin or even a rumor?

You might try calling the guys at Track of the Wolf.  They have probably heard or seen most everything with a black powder rifle.  And they are very nice folks.

  I've installed one L&R fllint lock in a T/C fitted stock.  Very minor fitting required.  The most work was carving a channel for the "V" mainspring in the L&R lock (T/C locks have a coil mainspring).  I did do a polish job on the L&R lock insides.

Thanks. It would appear that even though the rifle was still new it pre-dates CVA contracting their work to spain. The switch may have taken place after 1980 from what I hear. Just a rumor I may check out with  CVA. The box and original paper work has no indication as to were it was made USA or Spain. It does not have the typical yellow CVA sticker on the box indicating Made in Spain. The USA made CVA's were rumored to be very high quality fit and function as one could ever consider a CVA rifle ever being such. It might be worth testing out the lock.

A member of my ML gun club bought a Lyman GPR flintlock rifle kit. Lyman's flintlock is not very efficient. He bought L & R's RPL for it.

Quality is excellent. It closely resembles my L & R Late English lock. It was never intended to be a "drop-in" fit. RPL flintlocks are extremely close fits but they require slight wood removal and other fitting to the rifle for a good result.

The completed kit is beautiful. Some of the credit belongs to Lyman -- good European walnut, not black walnut; nicely profiled metal parts. But what makes the rifle go is L & R's lock.
