Checking the reticle adjustment on old Weaver

Hello,
I've got an old(1960) Weaver K 2.5 scope that may have developed a problem with reticle adjustment.
The movement of the reticle did not seem to be in correct relation with my 'click' adjustment.
I say"may" because some days my shooting is suspect.
I checked the scope with my Tasco collinator.
I cranked the windage several  times to a total of 40 clicks,and the reticle moved along the scale as it should,and when I cranked it back,40 clicks,it came to the exact same spot.
I did the same with the elevation(48 clicks),with the same results.
Is this a valid check?
Is there another check,other then actually shooting,to check the scope?
