Navy Arms 45/70 for trade?
« on: July 03, 2004, 05:13:17 AM »
Hi Folks,
I have a Navy Arms converted Enfield in 45/70 that I would like to trade on a quality .22 . It is a very good shooter w/ ladder peep and globe front sight. It can be hotrodded but I have not pushed it much. It is very accurate. Very good condition and a very cool rifle for the big bore fan.
No 10/22's (got one thanks). What have you got?
E-mail me for pictures.
Thanks
mstuhr

Hey msturh,

How does your rifle feel on recoil? I just got one yesterday and I am curious to as how it handles.

Also, what is the hottest load you have shot out of it? I have the Winchester Supreme 300gr Partition Gold I would like to try out at a later date. For now, I am content to stay with Trapdoor level loads. I will probably stay with cast bullets as well.

Any info you can provide would be appreciated.

Thanks

Coltrane

Howdy,
Mine handles O.K. (it's not mine any longer). I was running 300grn. Rem bullets at 1700fps and it was not bad.
I sold it to purchase a .22.
Good luck with yours.

And I bought it to add to my "unusual" bolt action 45-70 collection which now stands at 2 :)

Just love to layout a cartridge belt full of 45-70 rounds with the BIG LEAD slugs in em and then pull a bolt rifle from the case when everyone is expecting a roller, high wall or sharps.  Sure turns some heads and usually gets me some folks asking lots of questions 8)

SHot mine yesterday for the first time.  It has a lot of potential. I have to do some fine tuning on the sights, but at 50 yds, I got a 3 shot group at one inch!

I used a handload of AA2495 and a 350gr cast bullet.

There are 2 things I have issues with. The gun doesn't feed from the magazine very well. I shot mainly single shots dropped on top of the receiver.

The other thing is the little spring clip that gives pressure to the extractor popped out of the bolt while I was trying to feed from the magazine!

I got it to extract without it, but it still ticks me off!

Got some more work to do with this gun, but I like it. It is a soft shooter so far.
