Scoping a flintlock...
« on: January 13, 2003, 03:40:36 AM »
Now that the flintlock season has ended, I am looking to do some benchmark shooting with my Flintlock (T/C Firestorm).

I want to see what kind of accuracy the flintlock is capable of over a variety of charge & projectile combinations,
and I'm thinking that mounting a scope would help this process at the range.

It doesn't look like a very difficult thing to do as there is a weaver-style base produced by T/C that mounts in place of the existing sight on the Firestorm.

My questions are:
Has anyone else out there ever scoped a Flintlock?
What kind of results did you see off the bench?

:-D   A scope will help to figure out the optimum load for your flinter.  You will also be suprised of the size of the groups that you can get with this load, and they will be kinda small.  You might want to work up a light target load, and keep adding powder to gete a good accurate hunting load.  Iknow some guys will shoot the same load all of the time, and I have one or two that I do that in also.  For the scope,I would use a long eye reliefe type scope, probably a handgun type.  This will hopefully allow the scope to be down far enough on the brl so the pan flash will not get on the lense.  Good  luck with the load development.  Im sure some of the guys on here can help ya more also.   King

IF YOU PURCHASE THE MOUNT FROM T/C ALSO GET THE SCOPE PROTECTOR WRAP/COVER.  WITH OUT IT YOUR SCOPE WILL LOOK LIKE A BURNT UP HOTDOG AFTER ABOUT 10 SHOTS.
