Has anyone used these traps for rats? Ive used them for mink and rats for years and they work very good. The high jaws catch the rats and mink high on body and weight of traps drowns rats and mink quickly. These traps used to be used for fox but didnt work well. They can be picked up at garage sales and rondys cheaply. Just make sure pan is adjusted to fall freely and your traps is basically ready except for what ever traps preparation you want to use like waxing or dipping. Any questions give a holler

Lee,I loved the old #2 for mink.I quit using them altogether when the coon population took off.As you know,they are a very poor coon trap.I wouldn't hesitate to use them again for mink,if there were no coon in the area.
As far as rats go,I stick to the #1 stoploss.They hold and treat any coon very well also.I may be in a different situation than many on here.I may set 100 to 200 rat traps at a time.The weight differential between a stoploss and #2 coil is considerable. I also find the #1 easier and quicker for me to set,than the #2.

I've taken all of my #2's (victors) and made them into double jaw traps for mink and coon, set up on drowning rigs. I used extra #2 jaws set about a 1/4 of an inchbelow the top jaw. As well as the the double jaw, I also base-plated them and put 2 MB inline swivels incase a coon gets the trap tangled up before going down the drowner.

I really like the 2 for trapping in rat huts for the same reasons you gave Rdfx. I have caught quite a few rats by the head with them over the years in houses. They dont get away like that.

Tom, yes the #2 is a poor coon in non drowning situations. But in drowning situations I have come to believe that they are unbeatable. Not the old victor 2s but the new Bridgers. The low levers on the victors were never any good.

I dont think that I will buy another new 1 1/2 again, because I have come to really like the 2. Not saying I wouldnt buy another 1.5, just not new.

ps all my water traps are rigged with 8 foot drowners

every #2 victor coil I own also made it to the water trapping pile, and I too have had some fun with them on the mink and rat line. That big pan is a nice target, and they grab high up on the shoulders or head area on mink especially. I run mine on drowners also for the incidental coon catches. Its a darn poor land trap, but has been a decent small game water trap for me instead. I probably wouldn't buy any more as I prefer #110s for mink and rats and I prefer #11s for coon, but on the other hand I have this supply of obsolete #2 victors that have found a new life in certain set situations for me on the water line instead.
