couple of encore questions(.7mm bore, compare to boltguns)
« on: July 04, 2004, 08:52:52 AM »
really enjoy reading this on this forum. i would like to get an encore and am leaning toward the .7mm bore.  i've got a couple of questions to see if anyone can help with:
1. what about the .280 ackley? is it too much work forming brass or should i just stick with the .7mm rem. mag.
2. with the .7mag. does anyone have problems with case stretching and getting high velocities? i've read many good things about the .7mag, but have also read about headspacing. i do reload.
3. what's the feeling of having to operate a encore vs. a boltaction in a followup shot situtaion? i personally haven't had many followup shots in my life anyway, but just curious to read some opinions.

To Item 3 - I've shot 30.06 bolt action extensively for years (Rem 700) but in the past few years have been using the Encore in 7mm08. My take on followup of second shot is that a bolt action is only slightly faster but not by much once you become familiar with the Encore. To me the Encore is easier to handle and carry in the field, naturally points on target faster and is easier to clean than a bolt action.
