Alot of beaver trappers i talk to never have used sack oil by itself which surprises me....... as at times some bvr wont go near a castor mound set ect and ive found just a toothpick size stick put into sack oil from a differant colony will take the lure and trap shy bvr. Sack oil is also a very good canine lure by itself or as an additive. Whats your take on this Tom?

Lee,I never use just sac oil.It is incorporated into one of my lures.
I do alternate my 2 lues at every other set.But I just never use plain oil,part of that may just be stubborness on my part. I catch them with 330s and my lure--one way or another.

I always have a bottle of sac-oil with me, but I seldom use it. I save it especially for trap shy beaver.
I trap mostly streams so alot of times in the coldest part of the winter I'm trapping open water, so I mix just a dash of lure anti-freeze to a bottle to keep it from getting to thick in the cold weather.

You both incorporate sac-oil into your lures, and do this because you are both lure makers and know what you are doing and are trying to do. But for a beginner or somebody that don't understand the in's and outs of lures or lure usage. How much damage could you do by mixing the two together indiscrimately.

Tick,you can never overdo good castor in a beaver lure.When adding sac oil,don't overdo it.Add a bit and try it out.The beaver will let you know when you get the mixture the way they like it.

I'm going to try sac oil this season on beavers. Last season I saved the pair and there in the freezer right now. I also saved the castors but I think a cat stole one off my deck will i had it sitting out there :x

Woodtick: Like Tom says, lure formulating is just a trial and error situation while testing it along the trapline and in off season at mock sets. Ace :grin:

been wondering about mixing a little bit of sack oil and some lightly tainted groundhog meat for k9 bait ?
