Guy's,

I have heard that the light transmission quoted by Leupold is "per lense" and that Bushnell quotes the total scope transmission. That's my first question.

My second is I would like a high quality scope with a lifetime guarentee that is 2x to 10x with ideally a 45 mm front end. The reason I want this is because I use it for Elk which may be closer in dark timber so low light is a definite issue, the other is that I don't want a huge front end on the thing.

In my opinion, the Leupold 2-7 would be my first choice for an elk rifle, as a matter of fact, that just happens to be what's on my BLR! Has worked well for me in the type hunting you have described for over 20yrs. Guess I'm a bit biased, though..... :-) But, to get back to your criteria, a good choice is the Bushnell Elite 4200 2.5-10x40, 95% light transmission and a lifetime warranty.

Both the opticzone and quickdtoo are right. Can't go wrong with either the 4200 or the Monarch! :grin:

That's pretty neat.

Right now I've got a Elite 4-16x 50mm on my 300WSM

AND a Luepold VX-III 2-7x 36mm on my 358Win BLR.

The thing is I feel the Elite is a bit much for ELK at closer range and want to get a lower end on the variable. Leupolds do have a better eye releif range than the Bushy however the bushy is slightly brighter than an equivalent VX-III.

Dang leupold for not making a larger front end on the 2-8x range scopes for lower light conditions. What I'm really after here is Leupolds warranty.....

Then get the Leupold VX-III in 3.5x-10x-40 or 50mm. There's really not that big of a practical difference between 2x and 3.5x.

I have one. I bought it from Jon at the opticzone. It's a great scope. The ONLY thing I don't like about it is that the eye relief is just 3.3"

I bought it to mount on my Tikka T3 Stainless in .300WSM. I hope the eye relief is enough.
