Good news: Well folks I finaly did it. I got my bow tuned for me and it is ready to shoot. The guy let me take a few test shots at the shop and I hit where I was aiming both times. Pull was a bit heavy still, but not too bad....unfortunately this also plays into the bad news.................
Bad news: I take the bow out and I think the guy did all he could in being nice not to laugh at me. First thing he said "sorry but you aint gonna be able to use that rest on there: speking of the new whisker buiscuit I bought. Apparently the shelf is soooo small (it was made for a flipper rest he said,) that I barely even had 1/2" of center shot. He said that even if he could get the whisker rest far enough over it would probably shoot erraticly. He said he was amazed the vanes were not hitting the riser. So he had to install a flipper rest, which means I have to shoot feathers (he said the plastics would bounce off the flipper rest.) He adjusted the draw length just fine. But the weight he could only get to about 58lbs because the arms were already out of the pocket, which he said was bad because the limbs could twist. Even the arrows had to be longer than normal. He said "The broadheads couldnt clear the riser shelf because its so small and even if it did, with this rest it would probably be un-safe." He told me he wished he came to him first cuz he could have set me up with an entry level that was waaaaaay better for about $179 bucks. So Ive decided to relegate this to a practice bow ONLY. Im gonna save my cash and get a new bow. The prices at the shop were not as bad as I thought they would be. Of course there was the high ends at $700 and up. But they had A LOT of good looking bows in the econimical range of $250 to $300. There were a couple of PSEs that caught my eye. But there was a sweeeeetttt AR that was increadably short and light (even amazed the friend I went to the shop with, an experienced bow hunter who knew the guys at the shop and was there to help and offer advice.) But at $700 for the BARE bow It was a bit more than I can/will be able to afford.
But hey, having NEVER fired a bow before, and shooting one that the guy said was in good shape (even if it was a REAL old bow,) I managed to put both shots in the same spot on the foam target. Guess practice will go a little better if Im already CLOSE to the target :-D .
