You could make a rimless one from .223 brass, but there isn't anything else you could make a normal 357 max from, except maybe a 38 Ballard Extra Long.

Practically, no.

There have been .222Rs made that might could be made to work, but they are rare and expensive.

If you are worried about future availability, just squirrel a few bags. At around $30 for 250, it's the cheapest method.

For the real worrier, if .357 Max brass ever dried up completely, a very minor chamber mod would make the rimless version mentioned earlier workable in those guns whose extraction could be made to handle rimless cases.

Not that I know of...........my saga with .357 max brass from Rem. was a bit gilted but resolved. I bought up some from MSSS 500 pcs. Loaded up a few ramps as this was my first outing with the gun. I had split cases right from the get go....stopped shooting. Called the Remington Munitions plant in Arkansas and after I sent them samples they replaced all I bought from MSSS and sent me a check for components I lost in loading.

Curious if this was one of the reasons you are looking for other  sources of brass.

I was just wondering if I could make it from something easy to get.  I will just pick some up in Portland next time I go.

Robert, this is the internet age. You don't need to go to Portland.

You go here www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/department.asp?dept=%52%45%4C%4F%41%44%49%4E%47&dept2=%50%49%53%54%4F%4C%20%42%52%41%53%53&dept3=%33%35%37%20%52%45%4D%20%4D%41%58

A few days later the stuff arrives at your door cheaper than you could get it in Portland. if the store in Portland has it, which they probably don't.

357 Maximu brass

You can take 357 Super Mag brass, trim 0.005 inch off the length and you have 357 Maximum brass.  Of course I get my Super Mag brass by buying Winchester 357 Maximum brass which is 0.005 over length to start with.

More seriously, the 357 Super Mag was around before the 357 Maximum came on the market.  What were they making 357 Super Mag brass out of?

There is a proprietary cartridge called the 360 Dan Wesson that has a case length midway between the 357 Magnum and the 357 Maximum or 357 Super Mag.
