more pigs

hello  friends     once  again  i  have  been away,  ive  been  doing  some  serious  still hunting lately  and  trying new ways  of  hunting pigs,  i  have  not  been seeing  alot  of  sign  arouind  the  feeders  so  i  went  to  the  creek  bottom  and  started roaming  down  there   i  heard some splashing  and  some  squealing   when i  rounded  the  corner  i  seen  6  pigs  i  had  the  wind  in  my  favor,  I  shot  the  first  boar  then  they started  scattering  i  hit  a  sow  on  the  run  right  behind  the  shoulder  and  shot  at  a  3rd  but  cleanly missed  i  hit  a  pine  tree  the  hogs  should   go  in  the  125 lb range  every time  i  hunt  i  am trying new  things  and  this still  hunting re assured  me  that  it  can  be  done   the  hogs  on my place  are not cooperating with me  now  so  i  am taking  the  hunt  to  me   it  is  no longer  an easy hunt  when  i came  in  i  had  dropped 8  lbs     so  i  had  to  re fuel  with plenty  of  water

Good deal, yes it can be done. Especially in the summer when it is hot and they are staying on the water a lot more. I caught 7 more last week at the nursery, they were all in the 60-70lb range. Cant wait until it cools off so we can break out the dogs again. What gun did ya use this time?

Im used   the  7400 309  i  got  from  you,  man  i  love  the  gun  being  a  lefty  this  is  the  first  time  i  have  been  able  to  get multiple shots  off  so  quick   i  need  to  get  a  couple more  magazines  for it   where  should  i  look  around  this  town?   i  appreciatr  the  deal  on  the  gun  no  jams  and  shoots  super  accurate   thanks  again

howie i never see you wear hunters orange.. i know you hunt private property.. isnt orange required then ?

the  only  place  where  i  hunt  that  requires  hunter orange  is  the  upland island wilderness area  that  is  mainly during squirrel  and  deer  season  i  generally  hunt  pugs  when  no  one  else  is  which  is  the  summer  time,  they  are  actually  easier  to  figure  out   during  the  heat.  find  water   food  source  and  bedding area  and  you  have  it  made.  On  the  private property  there is  not  much  of  a  need  as  the  only   people  on  are plase  legally  are  me  and  a  few  other  guys   and  they are never around  the  all  live  in  the  city   and  rearely ever come around  except  a  few  days  during deer  season  so  i  have  the  place  to  myself

one more question if you dont mind....

is there anyway to recognize a "sick" animal other than from general impression that the animal makes ? i know you can spot a sick rabbit by spots on the liver or infected eyes for instance... is there any way to recognize a sick boar or deer ?

to  be  honest  i  am  not  sure     the  only  way  i  can  tell  of  a  sick  pig  is  one  that  is  extremley scrawny compared  to  the  others  or  if  i  see gngrene on  one  ive only  seen  1  sick pig  in  the  wild   as genrrally  when  they  die  the  others  feed  off  of  it  i  have  found  lots  of  pig  bones  though

If you cant find another mag around town let me know and I will order you one and trade you for those traps you have. Let me know, I will be making a order in a day or so, got to get my little cousin and a friend of mines boy a couple of rifles. Glad you like the 308, I shot a MGA 308 today, that is match grade arms in Humble, across from carters in houston. Shot good, but out shot it with my Ruger 22-250 at 400yds, it had a great muzzle break though, didnt kick and for a change didnt need plugs and muffs. Cant see spending $2500 on one. Let me about the mags.

i  went  to  Tolars  and  those  traps  are  very  rusty   i  will  get  them  and  call  your  cell  ill  give  them  to  you  as  i  am  done  trapping  them on  the  lease  it  is  to  easy  to get  them  coming  to  corn  lol  what  other  guns  do  you  have  for  sale/   send  me  a  pm

Nice Hog!!

I just got back from TX. I could only Hog hunt 1 day  :cry: as this was a more family oriented trip  :grin: . I was skunked on Saturday evening's hunt, but Sunday morning was better. The first Hog I saw was a big boar...you could clearly see his tusks @ 40 yds. Unfortunately, he was mixed in with the cows and I couldn't get a safe shot off before he sensed me and split:( . I saw another smaller boar at one of the feeders and then had a great stalking experience in thick cover. With the wind in my favor, I got within 15 yards of an OK sized pig, but the cover was to thick to try a shot.

No new meat in the freezer, but I had a blast!!

I spent one day setting up a new feeder and cutting shooting lanes around it. It is at the site of an old box stand that we had to stand up-right and secure as it has fallen over. This will be my hunting spot during our Thanksgiving trip.

Caught some nice Trout and a few Red Snappers when we went fishing @ Port Mansfield for 3 days :grin: . Most of the residents there have feeders in their yards and we saw some incredible bucks!! Some groups had over twenty deer and several 8 to 10 point bucks in them.
