Recoil of 375H&H 26" barrel?
« on: June 17, 2004, 05:51:54 AM »
How is the recoil of the encore in 375H&H? What kind of scope mount did you use?  Can you tell me how the recoil compares with that of a bolt action rifle? What loads do you use?

Thanks for any information you know about this. I appreciate it.

I can't speak for the 375H&H in an Encore rifle, but I had a 45-70 in an Encore rifle and it was a killer with heave loads. I would rather shoot a shotgun with 3 inch mag slugs all day. I have a 375H&H in a Sako and it is quit a hand full. As far as the scope on my 45-70 went, I used T/C mount and Leupold QD rings. It busted 2 sets of Leupold rings and damaged the mount. (I sold the barrel). You may want to invest in MAXIMA RINGS AND BASES.

:D  I have the Encore in 375 H&H with synthetic stock. I have only shot
1 federal 270gr factory load threw it and it really kicked!! I ended up putting a limbsaver recoil pad on it which is worth it's weight in gold!! So put one on!! I have shot 200gr, 220, 235, 270, and 300 gr bullets at 50yds and it shoots everything really good! I have used Hornady, Speer, and Serria bullets with Winchester brass and Federal Match-Mag primers. Everything groups 1/2 to 1 inch at 50yds! I will try 100yds soon. I also went to the store and bought some ankle weights and put them in the Butt of the rifle for extra weight but I have not had time to shoot it since I put it in there. I put a leupold rifleman scope + standard TC scope base mount
with leupole rings and it is a nice set up. I also put the TC hammer extension on. The rifle kicks but I Luv it!! The 375 is an amazing round and will take everything that walks close and far away!! It can be a Brush gun or an open field gun!! I reduce the loads some when I shoot at the range but this rifle in 375 will never leave myside! I would recommend the 375 in an Encore and glad I bought one!! Put a recoil pad on and shoot! Good luck! Hope this helps!! :D

Back again!! I believe it kicks more than a bolt rifle but the added weight and recoil pad help alot, now it shoots like a 270. I also have great results using H-Varget powder with all .375 caliber bullets. I don't have specific loads yet but the books start loads shoot great! Try Varget!! I am also going to try H-4895. I will post more about the 375 H&H as I get time to shoot!

I have two of them and love them. My wife loves hers and shoots it all the time. So far she has shot a bear, moose and caribou with hers. Here is some streaming of her shooting it. Sandi shooting 375 H&H

I have another 375 H&H barrel NIB that I'd love to trade for another caliber say a 338 mag.
