After thinking about it, I realized that it made no sense for an Oviedo military rolling block action to be cut for vee threads. The licensed producers of the Remington Rolling Block (Spain, Argentina, Denmark, Sweden, Norway) copied the Remington design faithfully, and with all other action parts there was a large degree of parts interchangeability. US military thinking at th time (and the RRB was designed for the military market) favored the square threads for a more secure barrel attachment.
The 1882 date on your Oviedo indicates that the original patents were still in effect. US patents then were good for 17 years, I believe.
The Spanish Oviedo military action is a direct copy of the Remington Number 1 blackpowder action. It should be the same size as the RRB. Differences include cross screw forearm attachment, soldered on rear sight, and longer barrel.
Let us know how you make out on this project!
